Rochester Women
RWBRD

Editor Letter

Celebrate with us – we are 50 issues old, and we’re not even close to over the hill!
We’re commemorating the milestone with a brand new logo. Those of you who have been reading Rochester Women for any of its eight years in publication will notice that our new logo is markedly different from the original. When we began the redesign process, we thought about the women who represent this magazine – those who share their important and varied stories and those who support it with advertising or readership. They are you, your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends. They are strong and stable, feminine and familiar. And they are easily recognized for the positive energy they bring to our city. That’s what we want to represent with the RW logo.
After 50 issues, many of you can say “I was in that magazine.” If you have been featured, if you know someone who’s been featured, if you’ve advertised, or if you just love reading Rochester Women because it’s about the women around you, we hope you feel like this is your magazine.
Writer Amy Brase says it best in 50 Fun Facts About Rochester Women (p. 18), which highlights a smattering of amusing tidbits about, well, you. Amy has been submitting great stories for about four years now. She writes: “Our magazine is devoted to acknowledging and empowering women who make a difference.” She takes ownership of Rochester Women (as you all should) and she understands who we are and what we try to do every issue.
In this issue, we’re including some fun 50-themed articles. And we are doing something we didn’t do in 49 issues – featuring a man on the cover. Greg Miller, artistic director at the Rochester Civic Theatre, will play 30 characters in an upcoming holiday show. We figured there must be a woman or two in the mix of characters.
You know what they say: “Behind every great man is a great woman.” In this case, behind Greg is a team of women who keep the Rochester Civic Theatre running. We hope you enjoy the story about six talented gals. (p. 33.)
Thanks for your continued support. Here’s to the next 50 issues!
